Our History

Your hostess, Bette, a retired secondary school teacher, shared with her late husband, George, a passion for promoting the Napa Valley wine industry and culture. George’s vocation as a petroleum geologist was enriched by his avocation as a university wine educator, writer and judge at historical wine tastings. He did much to encourage and promote the wine industry and culture in Napa Valley. Bette and George became partners of a small winery in the late seventies and moved to the valley permanently in 1980. While continuing his teaching wine appreciation classes at Napa College, he was a pioneering wine columnist for the local Napa Valley newspapers for almost 25 years.
They opened Zinfandel House Bed and Breakfast, including an extensive wine library, in their hillside home in 1981. Their interest in food, wine and people continues to make having a Bed and Breakfast a rewarding and, for guests, an enjoyable and unique experience in Napa Valley.
